Abstract

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy -a method of saturating a patient with oxygen
(oxygen therapy) under high pressure for therapeutic purposes, carried out in hyperbaric pressure
chambers. It is used in the treatment of decompression sickness or air embolism. The therapeutic
principle is associated with a significant increase in the partial pressure of oxygen in biological
tissues in comparison with pure oxygen achieved by breathing under normal atmospheric pressure.
